Sunday, Volkswagen India hits the Indian automobile industry with its first compact sedan Ameo, at Rs 5.14 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. The car made a grand entry into the sedan segment sparking a price war with the leading Maruti Swift. Reports proved that the car is cheaper than Maruti Swift which is priced at Rs 5.52 lakh.
Ameo, touted as Made-in-India car by VW is available in three variants-1.2L MPI petrol (5-speed manual), 1.5L TDI diesel (5-speed manual), and 1.5L TDI diesel (7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox). The price of the variants is claimed as INR 513,864, INR 587,914, and INR 691,860 respectively.
Launched at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, Ameo is featured with a 1.2L three-cylinder MPI petrol engine which is capable enough to churn out 74bhp pf power and 110Nm of peak torque. Later, four 1.5L TDI diesel engine cylinders will join the line-up. It delivers 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque and is featured with five-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed DSG transmission.
Michael Mayer, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India congratulated by saying that June 5, 2016, will always be a special day for VW family. “Today is a very special day for Volkswagen in India as we introduce our first ever made-for-India carline Volkswagen Ameo. Through the Ameo we are confident of cementing Volkswagen’s string presence in the compact segment and further expand Volkswagen India family.”
Alike the predecessor models of the German auto-giant, Ameo too offers a Trendline, Comfortline and Highline variant. Above all, these variants are featured with dual front airbags and ABS as standard.
By Trendline, VW means that Ameo is furnished with body-coloured bumpers, wing mirrors and door handles, door mirrors with turn indicators, heat insulating glass, flat-bottomed steering wheel, sunglass-holder inside the glove box, folding rear seat backrest, front power windows, central locking, tilt and telescopic steering.
Comfortline includes dual-tone interior, cruise control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, electrically adjustable ORVMs, front and rear power windows. Ameo is installed with CD, MP3, USB, AUX-in, SD card, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.
The Highline variant has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, steering mounted controls, automatic wipers, reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors, front armrest with a rear AC vent, electrically foldable ORVMs, rear defogger and last but not the least touchscreen MirrorLink system.
Statistics proved that the Trendline variant weighs 1,044 kg, 1,059 kg for Comfortline and Highline weighs 1,069 kg. The fuel tank capacity is 45L while the boot capacity is 330L. The model is available to the folks in five colors- blue silk, reflex silver, toffee brown, candy white and carbon steel.
