Kilauea’s lava lake cascading below the water table could result in eruption. On one of its sides there is a fissure that is emanating smoke under Leilani Estates. Houses, cars, and prized mailboxes have become inundated in cooling lava flows as the ground quivers with seismic activity. Inhabitants fled their homes with pets and personal possessions to closely situated shelters. A geothermal plant situated at a near distance was emptied of stocks of combustible materials as the high temperature of the Earth edged closer to their facility.
However, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. At the apex of Kilauea around 25 miles away from the fissures in Leilani Estates, the exterior of the perennial lava lake immersed deep into an aperture dropping 970 feet below the floor of the crater at the top. The speedy and drilling decent into the Earth increases the possibility for a divergent kind of unstable incident taking place, one far more explosive in the history of 90 years.
The activity at Kilauea is propelled by below ground repository of magma–molten rock lingering in vents and chambers below the volcano. As the magma transposes underground it impels the Earth around it causing earthquakes and eruptions when it eventually intrudes through surface. Geologists observe the magma’s coalition by tracing earthquake flurry in the location and calculate alterations in the slope of the volcano which can amend as the magma inflates or deflates super imposed rock.
