Amazon has recently discarded the circumcision training kits from the UK-based website of the company, after getting complaints saying they normalize the risky and unnecessary practices.
The circumcision training kits for the infant boys were provided for sale through Amazon by ESP, those were retailed at around £365.16 to £456.60. The kit was including a sample of genitals of a boy made up of ‘lifelike’ material, scalpels and plus scissors.
The UK based website of Amazon removed the kits after being advised to do so through a letter sent by the National Secular Society (NSS).
The chairperson of secular medical forum of the National Secular Society, Dr. Antony Lempert wrote that, “Male circumcision in the UK is wholly unregulated and we fear that the sale of this product may encourage unqualified practitioners to carry out unnecessary surgery on infants in non-clinical conditions, resulting in serious harm.”
Amazon affirmed that it has removed the kits from its UK’s website on Wednesday. The products were available in various colors and advertised as ‘made with soft, lifelike material, which is pliable, delicate, and realistic to the touch.’ the accessories associated with the product could be bought separately. However, the similar kits are remained for being purchased on the US based site of the company.
The letter added that, “Non-therapeutic circumcision is unethical and unnecessary and is putting infant boys at risk of death and serious injury. This practice could be encouraged by the morally negligent sale of infant circumcision training kits to the public.”
